Nautical charts must be used by sea travelers to ensure a safe
journey when they travel from one place to another. These charts show
various details such as depths of water, height of land, details of the
coastline, navigational hazards, natural features of the seabed,
information on tides and currents. It also give details of the Earth's
magnetic field as well as the human-made structures such as harbors,
bridgesand buildings. The charting may be in the form of charts that are
printed on paper or computerized electronic navigational charts. With
time, the nature of waterway depicted in the chart may change, or there
may be any other alteration. It is therefore important that one uses a
recently updated chart when going on a journey and an old or uncorrected
charts should never be used for navigation purposes.
