The Importance of ISM Code

Safety is a prime concern, regardless of the means of transport. So we have strict guidelines in place for the road, water, and air transportation. These safety guidelines make transportation safer and hassle-free.

By resolution A.741(18), the ISM Code was adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with a view to ensuring safety at sea, avoidance of damage to the environment especially marine environment, prevention of human injury or loss of life, and the safety of property. International Safety Management Code (ISM) requires companies to follow safety objectives as explained in section 1.2 of the ISM code. In addition to that, companies must create, develop, and maintain a Safety Management System (SMS) including functional requirements as explained in section 1.4 of the ISM code.

With the adoption of SOLAS, Chapter IX, “Management for the Safe Operation of Ships”, compliance with ISM code became mandatory. Shipowners, maritime administrators, ship operators, shipping companies, training providers, education institutes, shipbuilders engine and equipment manufacturers must be aware of  ISM code. One can buy ISM code guidelines easily online. ISM guideline code is available in hardcopy, e-reader, e-book format. So you can buy it as per your convenience. What’s more, you can buy it online as well. Many leading companies offer ISM code, vector charts, nautical charts through their online stores.
